The Red Queen

by Marine Chappuis

I wanted them red
The color of your liquid, spread on all the flowers of my garden
That would be marvelous, wouldn’t it ?

You see,
Those white roses are ugly,
As ugly as is your perfect skin…
It would be prettier on my back !
I would wear it proudly as a trophy, I promise
A red coat for a red queen.

And your blond hair would be the icing on the cake
The golden crown on my head
Magnificent !
None would ever say your sweet name again.
Only your head would remain
Brilliant, sweet, stained,
And smiling as always
On a peak in front of my door.

Come, Alice, come,
Don’t be afraid,
Give me your head !
