Welcome to the Université de Neuchâtel’s Introduction to Creative Writing course literary magazine.
This course is offered to second- and third-year Bachelor’s students who are studying English as a foreign language. While some of the students have written creatively before, many are writing poems and short stories in English for the first time.
The work you see here was produced during Fall 2021 in response to weekly prompts. In the course, students can write about any subjects they choose, but they are given prompts to provide a starting place (beginning with a blank page can be overwhelming!) and to work on specific areas of writing. Poetry prompts range from “letter” poems to dramatic monologues while short story prompts might focus on dialogue or unreliable narrators.
During non-pandemic semesters, we end the term with a public reading. As this is our second pandemic fall, we have a second course literary magazine. The poems and short stories shared here were chosen by the students who wrote them.
